It is the largest cave(610 meters) in Germany’s Harz Mountains. It was discovered in 1541 and the people thought that the large deposits of bone belonged to the mythical creature, the unicorn. Modern research has shown that the bones actually belonged to many prehistoric animals who took shelter there. Mammoths, ancient cave bears, ancient lions, and excavation has even shown that prehistoric man also in this cave at some point in the past.
